Harvesting rainfall is an ancient practice that has received new interest, in recent years, as communities search for ways to secure their water resources. Nature’s Voice Our Choice will be implementing two very different rain water harvesting projects in 2010.
Rainwater harvesting to recharge ground water - In Sandu, Ghana the community will build small earthen structures to catch rain and recharge ground water tables that feed existing wells. This will ensure water availability during the dry season.
Urban rainwater harvesting - In the slums of Madurai, India rain will soon become an asset. In cooperation with the Goodwill Social Work Center we are developing a Rain Center aimed at training local residents in the techniques of urban rainwater harvesting; thus providing people with a source of clean free water, and reducing flooding and overflowing sewage during the monsoon season.
